Who owns Lamborghini and Bentley?
Audi does, on behalf of Volkswagen Group. Audi lists Automobili Lamborghini and Bentley Motors as 100% subsidiaries, alongside Ducati.
Volkswagen says it acquired Bentley and the Crewe factory on 3 July 1998, and Lamborghini on 10 July 1998. Lamborghini had passed through Swiss owners, receivership, the Mimran brothers, Chrysler from 1987 and the Indonesian-owned MegaTech from 1994 before that. For its founder's story, see how Ferrari and Lamborghini differ.
Who owns Bugatti now?
No longer Volkswagen Group, and no longer Porsche. Volkswagen acquired the brand in 1998, and in 2021 it passed to Bugatti Rimac, a joint venture with Rimac Group on 55% and Porsche on 45%.
Porsche agreed in April 2026 to sell, and the deal closed on 9 September 2026. A consortium led by New York's HOF Capital, with BlueFive Capital its largest investor, took the direct 45% of Bugatti Rimac and Porsche's holding in Rimac Group. HOF says it now holds 23.5% of Rimac Group, making it the largest shareholder, in a deal it values at €1 billion.
Mate Rimac leads Bugatti Rimac and also takes over as President of Bugatti Automobiles. This is the newest change here, and many older guides still name Volkswagen or Porsche.
Why does BMW own Rolls-Royce but Volkswagen owns Bentley?
Because the two brands were sold separately in a famous 1998 mix-up. Volkswagen bought Rolls-Royce Motors from Vickers, including the Crewe factory and Bentley, but the Rolls-Royce name belonged to the aerospace company Rolls-Royce plc, which licensed it to BMW for £40 million.
The carmakers agreed that BMW would take the name from 1 January 2003 and Volkswagen would keep Bentley. BMW built a new plant at Goodwood and unveiled the Phantom that month. The longer story is in Bentley and Rolls-Royce: how they split, and the Rolls-Royce quiz tests it.
Is Maserati for sale?
Stellantis says no. Asked about a sale at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, chief executive Antonio Filosa answered "Not at all", according to Motor1, citing Bloomberg.
That does not mean nothing is changing. In June 2026, Filosa told Italian lawmakers that Stellantis was negotiating with two unnamed partners for Maserati, with a strategic roadmap due in Modena in December. Fiat became sole owner in 1993, then sold half to Ferrari in 1997, and Ferrari took full control in 1999. In 2005 Maserati moved back within the Fiat group, then to FCA and, in 2021, to Stellantis.
Who controls Aston Martin?
No single company owns it outright. Aston Martin has been listed in London since 3 October 2018, and its largest holder is the Yew Tree Consortium led by executive chairman Lawrence Stroll.
A company circular dated February 2026 shows 32.65% for Yew Tree members, 14.08% for Geely International and 7.54% for Mercedes-Benz AG. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is also a major holder; a notice from May 2025 put it at 16.70%, but that figure is older than the rest and may have changed.
Who owns McLaren?
Abu Dhabi's CYVN Holdings owns the road-car business, bought from Bahrain's sovereign fund Mumtalakat. The deal was reported in December 2024 and completed in April 2025. Forseven, a British start-up also owned by CYVN, was then merged in under the new McLaren Group Holdings.
McLaren Racing is a different matter. CYVN holds a non-controlling stake in it, so the Formula 1 team does not sit inside the same ownership as the road cars. See where the marque began in Bruce McLaren's story, or try the McLaren, Lamborghini and Maserati quizzes.
